Developer Updates
1. The time has come: Pocket Core MVP, April 15th.
After 2 years of R&D the Pocket Team is proud to announce the release of the first phase of the Pocket Core client!
The “Minimum Viable Pocket” (MVP) is fully prepared for deployment. We’re delighted to announce registration for interested Developers and Node Operators.
At the time of this newsletter, we have 6 partners officially onboarded for the MVP release(Quiknode, Protofire, Nodesmith, AION Network, Portis, and Dabble Labs) with many more that we are in talks with.
The beauty of Pocket’s agnostic relay network is that nearly any blockchain, DApp, tool or service can gain value, and add value to the Pocket ecosystem.
If you are interested in exploring a partnership don’t hesitate to contact us. #networkeffects!
Join our partners and community as we embark on this critical phase of the project. Registered members of the release will be allocated 2500 PXKT in an airdrop, that can be used to submit proposals to our DAO launching later Q2.

2. Alongside Pocket Core MVP we are launching our Developer Portal.
With help from our Dev Ed partner Dabble Lab(who helped with the AION tutorials) we will be launching the first iteration of our Developer Portal alongside the MVP release. This will come complete with tutorials for Javascript, IOS and Android for both Ethereum and AION blockchains. We will also go into custom plugin creation for those that want to contribute to our goal of supporting every blockchain.
Shortly after this iteration(baseline documentation and tutorials) we will launch a series of Walkthrough Videos and tutorials using an example DApp for you to use/play along with.
Pocket Core is an open source project, so all the code is available in our Github: Pocket-Core if you want to dive right in.
3. (Sneak Peak)Monster Chase will go live alongside MVP!
In partnership with AION network, we are launching an example decentralized application “Monster Chase“ built using Pocket Core MVP software and utilizing AION network, tokens and smart contracts.
If you are attending AION’s Rebuild conference you’ll get a chance to drop and collect monsters with Michael O’Rourke, CEO of Pocket, who is also a featured speaker of the conference.
Monster Chase currently utilizes the AION plugin for Pockets IOS SDK, but because of Apples current App-store policy(they tend to flag crypto-games as “bypassing purchase methods“), although it is a fully functional decentralized application, it will only be available through Testlight at this moment.
We are very interesting in banning together with other crypto-game developers to propose a policy change, or maybe we just do our own direct-download directory ;P
Economics & Governance updates
1. Pocket DAO progress
The Pocket DAO charter is in a very strong place thanks to the efforts of lead researcher Jack with help from Michael, Tracie, Patrick(as well as amazingly thoughtful feedback from community members such as Marco van den Heuvel).
Expect the latest version to be posted to our forum for a final round of feedback later this month.
We are now working directly with the Aragon team to iron out functionality needs and explore possible features additions we may build out for our use as well as for the Aragon community.
We intend to launch this DAO mid-late Q2 and will update everyone as it progresses.
It’s important to note that during the period between MVP and Mainnet(Q1 2020) we are considering it to be an experiment and have taken pre-cautions regarding the scope of its goals and operations.
Although we are being prudent at this early stage, we are still very excited to launch this for the development of the Pocket Ecosystem.
2. Economic research
Now that we are moving through the Pocket Core MVP release and the team will begin focus on Testnet shortly, our economics, governance and engineering teams are all in sync. We very much looking forward to the presentation of our economic paper. Tracie, Lead Economic Researcher, has been working diligently with our adviser Professor Shivendu Shivendu on the early drafts.
News
1. We are implementing an upgraded community coordination strategy that will include a more robust forum, and a discord server for higher quality coordination between community members. More information on this will be released soon but for a high level summary.
We will use Telegram for announcements, and general chat.
We will use Discord for coordination between community members relating to MVP improvement, DAO proposals, and partnership development.
We will use the forum for “index-worthy” discussions, such as research, developer support, formalize DAO proposals, structuring opportunities etc.
If you would like to join the discord server early, by all means https://discord.gg/WRh7fMJ
2. ReBuild Conference hosted by AION in Toronto, April 23-24, so Michael and (hopefully) some other team mates are representing the Pocket in Canada this month. If you’ll be in attendance make sure to meet up with the guys, chat and learn more about the collaborations going on in the AION ecosystem today.
Behind the Scenes
Post-MVP, Vale, our Brand Director along with the team is working to launch an upgraded website with a more human-centric design and new art direction!
Post-MVP, we will work with the community to create a series of awesome PXKT bounties for contributing to the Pocket Ecosystem.
We are preparing launch the Americas Workshop Circuit later in the year where we will tour South/North America, educated interested people on Blockchain, smart-contracts and Pocket.
