Weekly Relay Recap

03/18 to 03/24: 69,666,560

03/25 to 03/31: 18,912,509

04/01 to 04/07: 32,422,619

04/08 to 04/14: 42,346,285

For the week of 04/08 to 04/14, the average successful relays per day were ~6.05M. The highest number of daily research was on April 11th, with over 8.4M relays.

Pocket Network Stats 04/08 to 04/14

This past week, 42.3M successful relays were processed. Nodes minted a ~423k POKT during this timeframe, ~376.5k POKT going to the service nodes, ~42.3k POKT going to the Pocket DAO, and ~4.23k POKT going to block producers.

Total Successful Relays from 03/18 to 04/14: 163,347,973

AVG Successful Relays Per Day  03/18 to 04/14: 5,833,856

AVG Successful Relays Per Week 03/18 to 04/14: 40,836,993

Over the last four weeks, applications using the Pocket Gateway have driven a total of 163.3M successful requests 📡

In this timeframe, that means nodes have minted a bit over ~1.63M POKT, with 89% going to the service nodes (~1.45M POKT), 10% going to the Pocket DAO ( ~163k POKT), and 1% going to the block producers (~16.3k POKT).

Total Staked Nodes

Analysis by Marco 👋 | @TMod_Marco

Another very healthy week full of growth!

After the large drop-off at the end of March, the Pokt Network has grown back closer to its recent heights. The graph shows two larger spikes, the largest being the one on April 11th, counting 8.4M relays on a single day.

Overall, the avg. number of daily relays continues to increase steadily, together with the total number of validator nodes on the network. It’s likely the network will hit over 4,000 active validator nodes next week, right after only recently hitting 3,000 total nodes.

Pocket Core Release Candidate 0.6.0 Community Call | Upgrade to RC-0.6.1

In this community call, we go through the details of the upcoming protocol release candidate 0.6.0; however, we are now immediately moving towards the Pocket Core RC -0.6.1 protocol upgrade in order to hotfix an issue that affects nodes directly.  It also ships with a handful of quality-of-life improvements.

Pocket Core RC-0.6.1 Hotfix

0.6.1 has been released with a hotfix for a critical bug that was found in 0.6.0 during the testnet upgrade rehearsal. As a result, all nodes who have already updated to 0.6.0 must now also update to 0.6.1. PIP-4 has been edited to specify 0.6.1 as the new version for the network upgrade.

For more information and all details, please refer to the Mainnet Upgrade - 0.6.1 Hotfix Forum post.

Community Call | How to Harden & Scale Your Node Infrastructure

In our recent community call, Shawn (@BenVan#9083 on Discord) discusses the effects of unstructured peering and gossip on network resource load as well as recommends best practices for optimizing node setups in order to reduce the weight of the protocol and enable the protocol to scale further.

If you’re interested in hardening & scaling your node, then the video recap below is definitely for you. Or, get access to the associated slides here.

Node Pilot Community Call & Demo | APR 19th Monday @ 2PM EST

Node Pilot is a node deployment manager built for the Pocket Validator ecosystem. Seamless Docker integration brings enterprise-level security and scalability, while remaining entry-level friendly to inexperienced users.

The Node Pilot has been in development since August 2020 and this will be a debut and walk-through of the first public beta.

Features include: Automated TLS, Multi-chain support, 1-click backup, easy-access logs, node pooling, 1-click updates, and more.

Within our Discord community server, RSVP through the sesh bot from our #calander channel, then join brothers Shane and Ryan Burgett on 04/19/2021 at 2PM EST in our #cafe channel for the community call/demo!

A spotlight on our core infrastructure providers

In any blockchain protocol, a solid foundation of enterprise-grade node infrastructure providers ensures a healthy baseline of quality service.

We could question ourselves, how decentralized is a network with more than a third of all nodes running on AWS really? This could still result in delays or outages, as experienced before. Do you know what’s never down? That’s right, Pocket Network. As Pocket Network is redundant by design, has processed over 1B relays and counts over 3,000 live nodes.

We appreciate all the infrastructure providers that help power our network, and are excited to put some of these providers in the spotlight this week in our recent Medium post.

What can you do to drive relays and add nodes to the network?

App Side of the Marketplace

If you care about privacy and decentralization, replace the default network provider in your MetaMask wallet with actual decentralized node infrastructure by adding a Pocket-powered Ethereum mainnet endpoint through the custom rpc settings!

Try out any of these other apps listed in this forum post. You can also earn a skill-role in our Discord community server for dogfooding any of those applications by completing a quest within the POKT arcade.

We are offering applications up to 1,000,000 requests per day as part of a limited free tier program. Please refer us to any blockchain apps/services that you want to be actually decentralized and truly resilient to single points of failure!

If your application or service is interested in becoming a launch partner for the wPOKT farming program, register here!

Node Side of the Marketplace

Don’t know how to run a node? Watch the Zero to Node videos above to learn how.

If you run into any issues,  a community of node runners (and our support team) would be happy to help. If you’d prefer to not run a node yourself, check out the forum for a list of node providers offering their services to people interested in participating in the ecosystem.

How to purchase POKT to stake?

When you are ready to take the step forward in supporting decentralized node infrastructure and earning Pocket’s native cryptocurrency for serving apps then visit the community-established OTC run by Subzero, which is the best way to buy or sell POKT and helps nodes cover the cost of their infrastructure. Join the private telegram channel (requires telegram) and message the admin to get started. Note that there are fees associated with the OTC to help cover their costs and that neither Pocket Network, Inc., the Pocket DAO, nor the Pocket Foundation receives any of these fees nor any proceeds from the sale of POKT through the OTC.
